Michael Wren founded GRANDE VINDIMA in 2009, having immersed himself in Portuguese wines and culture for the past decade. GRANDE VINDIMA’s portfolio covers the main premium wine regions of Portugal including Douro, Alentejo, Dao, Bairrada and Vinho Verde. The company has a firm belief in education and in growing the level of knowledge of Portugal, it’s regions, varieties, wines, wineries, and winemakers; GRANDE VINDIMA is the go-to, Portuguese, fine wine specialist.

Michael started the company with just two wines: a Vinho Verde that he had made exclusively for GRANDE VINDIMA, and a 2003 Douro red. The wines were aimed at high-end bars, restaurants and fine wine stores and quickly sold out. The range rapidly expanded to over forty wines, and now includes espumante, Vinho Verde wines, white, red and rose table wines, white and red ports, as well as a selection of olive oils. Soon Portuguese beer will be added to the growing and diverse portfolio.

GRANDE VINDIMA currently distributes to VIC, NSW, SA and WA, and plans are in place to move into QLD and ACT in the near future.

Like many in the wine industry, Michael has enjoyed an envious career thus far: first completing a BA (Hons) in Classical Archaeology at the University of Sydney, then Oenology at Roseworthy in Adelaide, and then finally, taking the opportunity to follow the sun, working vintages around the world. He has completed vintages in the Napa, USA, Alentejo, and Douro in Portugal. Closer to home, he has worked vintages at Oakridge in the Yarra Valley, Lowe Family Wines in Mudgee, and Mitchelton at Nagambie.

Michael’s passion, however, is with Portuguese wines. A fluent Portuguese speaker, he takes every opportunity to immerse himself further into the country’s culture, and so founding GRANDE VINDIMA was a natural progression for him.
